2007 Sir Thomas Lipton Cup Results
Six boats turned out for the 2007 Lipton Cup sailed out of the Port Madison Yacht Club in Port Madison Washington. The fleet was split evenly between moderns and Classics. The wind conditions were erratic to say the least as the race course was in the lee of Bainbridge Island. A southeasterly blew at the bay's entrance with a southwesterly toward the head of the bay. It paid to be aware of the seam and take advantage of it. Winning the Cup was the modern "Finnegan" owned by Andy Parker pressed hard by Kimo Mackey's well sailed "Saga", which was also the first place classic. Third place was the nicely turned out modern "Frenzy" hoping for some more consistent conditions to test out their new full draft rudder. Fourth, showing improved speed was the modern "Sockeye" with a couple of seconds and a third. Second place classic was the exquisite "Hanko" with "Buzzy III" third in classics.
This was a fun regatta and a run up to the
US and Canadian Championships in Port Townsend August 11 and 12.
