Unusually good breezes for August powered six races for the King Olav V Cup regatta in Port Madison August 5-6. The fleet was composed of 5 boats in 3 vintages. One modern, one transitional, and three classics. In light of this the suggestion was made by the PRO to score the race on a PHRF handicap basis to give all of the fleet a better chance to compete. The competitors agreed to try it. It was interesting to note that going into Sunday the top three boats represented all three vintages separated by three points. In the end Bob Cadranell’s Modern Arunga was first, Dave Chatham’s 1978 transitional Modern, Ah Si Si, was tied with Kimo Mackey’s Saga for second. The tie breaker going to Ah Si Si.
Saturday after the racing the fleet was invited out to Joth Davis’s elegant cruiser, 'Acadia', anchored in the harbor for refreshments. Trophies were cast glass deck prizms provided by Molly Cadranell.
