2008 Newport, Rhode Island event schedule and documents
There are two main events in July, the Bob Tiedmann Classic over July 5th and 6th and the Olin Stephens regatta on July 19th and 20th. As I understand it, Alana and Clarity will do the Tiedmann regatta, hopefully joined by Belle and we should be full force for the Olin Stephens regatta: Alana, Clarity, Jill, Ranger, Elizabeth X, Madcap and Belle (an ersatz 6mR).
For the Tiedmann regatta, sixes should enter the "Classic Spinnaker" division. CRF 32.5.
Olin J. Stephens II Classic
For the Olin Stephens regatta, we will be racing with the Sheilds and S boats on short windward/leeward courses. We will be racing for the Olin J. Stephens II 6mR Classic Cup based upon low score for races on Sat and Sun (I have attached the DoG). In the event that we do not sail five races over Sat and Sun, we can include races from either the Herreshoff rendez-vous or the MoY Labor day regatta, or both. Olin Stephens regatta entry fee is $350 for two days of racing and two dinner tickets for Saturday. Also, please note that you might consider becoming a member of US Sailing to save on the entry fee.
Other action items: The night of the July 19th includes dinner and dancing at Harbor Court starting at 6:00 at $75 per person. Two tickets will be included with our entry fee. For now, I will try and reserve two tables, but please let me know ASAP if you and significant other are able to come. Should be a fun night.
US 56 Jill on display
Jill will be on display to remind people where Olin got his start. You don't need to sail to attend the party, and as I like to say, "It is good to win the regatta, it is essential to win the party."
New tender - Limoncello
In the good news department: Tony Widmann had purchased a center console 6mR support boat called, fittingly, Limoncello. If you can't do the Tiedmann because your boat is not ready, contact Tony as he plans to spectate from the water.
