Boat Name: Tempest
Sail: US 125
Year Built: 1986
Designer: Sparkman & Stephens
Builder: Goetz Custom
Owner: Frank Pearl
History: 'Tempest' is the last 6 meter designed by Sparkman & Stephens, also the last built in the USA. Eric Ridder, of Cruising Club of America and America's Cup fame, commissioned her design and campaigned her in the 1986 North Americans in Seattle and the 1987 World Cup at Oyster Bay. She showed great promise, but Mr. Ridder passed away before Tempest could really prove herself. After Mr. Ridder's death the boat dropped off the map, eventually surfacing on Lake Sunapee where she was used as a day sailer. Her new owner recently attended the Sparkman & Stephens Designer Recognition at Mystic Seaport. Mr Pearl intends to keep Tempest at Martha's Vineyard and hopes to join the Larchmont Fleet for some racing in the future.
